Sharing Smiles in Jamaica

Nestled in Jamaica’s Sandy Bay, between gleaming bright beaches and towering palm trees, is a tiny preschool. You might not notice it from the outside, but there are BIG things going on in these classrooms.

Teachers trying to change the literacy rate in this small, beautiful country. Little people laughing and learning and running through the grass. And, once a year, my family is there too: bringing school supplies, books, smiles and hugs. This annual visit to Sandy Bay Basic School has become one of our favorite days of our trip.

En route home, an airport immigration official asked my boys what they like best about Jamaica. Without missing a beat they replied, “the people.” Jamaica has given us so many beautiful memories – it’s a treat to give a little love back to Jamaica when we can.

Looking at these photos makes my heart happy, and I’m sharing because maybe they’ll make yours happy too.
